Sight SavingAt the International Convention of Lions Clubs held at Cedar Point, Ohio in 1925, Helen Keller chalenged the Lions to be "Knghts of the Blind". Ever since Lions Clubs worldwide have worked tirelessly to preserve and improve sight. As members of the Marietta Noon Lions Club we: 1. Purchase eyeglasses and eye examinations for those who cannot afford them. 2. Financially support "Pilot Dogs" to provide guide dogs for the visually impaired. 3. Support research in diabetes, a leading cause of blindness throughout the world. 4. Support efforts to eliminate onchochariasis, river blindness, which causes blindness in many third world countries. 5. Collect and recycle eye glasses which are used to give sight to many in other coutries. 6. Transport donated ocular tissue from hospitals in the area to the Lions Eye Bank in Columbus, Ohio. This valuable donation is then used to restore sight to those who are losing sight through corneal disease. But Wait, There's More1. Financially support activities and organizations to benefit youth in our community. 2.Through Lions Club International Fondation, provide financial support for recovery from natural disasters. LCIF was present in our area during the flood of 2004.
